Dom Perignon is not a mob boss
April 12, 2011Oh damn that naughty auto correct!
April 21, 2011Today I decided to run a few search queries through google in order to see where my sites rank for certain key words. I noticed a lot of my google search results were displaying sites I have recently visited. I know that these are sites which are not currently ranking on the first page for the specific key words I typed, but google was still showing them to me on that first page of results.
I was immediately made aware of the fact that google was feeding me back results which were based on my recent search history with a newer feature they added to the google search engine. I know that this feature is great for customizing search results for normal every-day search engine users, but for someone like me who would prefer to see TRUE results directly from Google’s database, I knew this feature had to be disabled. There are people who still don’t know about some of the sites I work on, and they’ll never show up on the first page without those sites being optimized for those specific key words.
IF you scroll down to the very bottom of your search results, you may see a link which is titled, “View Customizations.” If you see that link, this will mean that your results are not all TRUE results, but based on your web history.
Once you click on that link, it will take you to another page that specifies your customization details. All you have to do is click on the link that says, “without these improvements,” and that query will now be shown to you with true google results right from their ranking and optimized database.
Another Thing I’ve noticed that Google has added which I find pretty cool on their SRP (Search Result Pages); the ability to see results which include links that people who are linked to you on your social networking sites have mentioned or posted. For example, I have Security Camera King as someone that I’m following on Twitter, and they have posted links to their website SecurityCameraKing.com. So when I run a search for 16 Channel Security Camera Systems, I get a result that includes a link they have posted on their Twitter page. This will also work for any other types of links that your friends may post on their pages and will give you a sense of recommendation from people you may know and trust.
