What do Fennec Foxes Sound Like?
July 21, 2016In this video you will see Scout The Fennec Fox hunting for crickets that I put in his sandbox. He loves the chase and as you can see, they use their big ears to locate the sound of their prey in the sand. In the Wild Fennec Foxes will hear bugs crawling from VERY far away and even underground! Those awesomely huge (and cute) ears also do double duty: they not only allow the animal to hear prey moving around underground, but they as well as help dissipate heat under that hot desert sun. Thick, cream-colored fur protects the fennec fox from both the extreme desert heat and insulates against the cold nights. His color also helps him blend in with sandy surroundings. Fur grows around the fox’s paw pads too, offering heat protection and traction as well!
Mostly carnivorous, Fennec Foxes favors insects, snails, rodents, birds, and bird eggs. Fennec Foxes still won’t pass up the opportunity to om nom nom on fruits and berries too!
