In reality, this isn’t the first time this has happened. Before I get into this, let me tell you a short story of a similar occurrence which left me baffled.

A few years ago, around the time Deadstar Assembly was really beginning to take off, I got an email from a girl who was really angry with me. She typed out all sorts of obscenities and told me that I’m going to pay for what I did to her. To make a really long story short, someone had been pretending to be me and basically sold this poor soul the world. She seriously thought that she had fallen in love with me and that she was going to move into my house. She moved all of her stuff from Europe with the last bit of money she had and landed in Georgia where she was supposed to meet with me, and like a Disney fairy tale, get married and live happily ever after.

Many questions came up from my end. I asked this girl if she had ever met me in person first and if she ever got to at least see me saying the things I said. Even through web cam would have made more sense. Unfortunately, this girl only went with what she read in emails and social web site conversations with the person pretending to be me. I believe she even spoke with the guy on the phone quite a few times. In the end, she ended up in GA with no one there to pick her up from the airport and left stranded.

I don’t know what would cause someone to do something so stupid and crazy, but I guess there are many people like that out there because that wasn’t the only time this has happened.

After talking to this girl a few times, she realized that the person she had been conversing with was in fact someone else pretending to be me and she apologized for all the mean things she said to me. Apparently she thought I saw her at the airport and didn’t like what she looked like so I was pretending that I never met her and what I told her about her possibly talking to a faker was all a lie. I proved that this was not that case and that she began to understand how stupid she was for making those choices to drop her whole life for someone she had only spoken to on the internet. I told her to just be glad that she was safe and that it wasn’t a ploy for some internet creep to lure her in and possibly worse.

With all that said, Here’s what I’ve been dealing with:

I wrote her back and let her know many reasons why she should believe that I really am the real Dro and how she could prove it if she wanted to. First of all, The acocunt on facebook that she’s been talking to me on is linked to the DSA Facebook page of which I had to submit an actual copy of my driver’s license to prove to them that I Was really who I say I am otherwise they wouldn’t have allowed me to post the DSA songs in fear of a copyright lawsuit. Obviously if my account on facebook belonged to a fake, then that wouldn’t have been possible.

She then wrote back to me and said:

I asked her to answer a few simple questions that anyone who knew my personally could answer. I wanted her to tell me how old I was, what my full name was, where i lived, what color my hair is at the moment, how tall I am (anyone who’s seen me in person, even on tour could answer THAT ONE! lol) and so on and so on…

She refused to answer any of those questions by stating that she had better things to do than sit there answering silly questions about the person she’s in love with. She then proceeded to ask me if I knew Laura, Damien, and Tripp. I immediately assumed that she was talking about Laura Mayhem and her Husband, Damien from Shattered Glass Playground. However, I didn’t know anyone named Tripp so I told her that I did know Laura and Damien but that I guaranteed she didn’t know them personally because if she did, then I would know who Ericka was because Laura and Damien are that close to me that I know mostly everyone they do. I wanted to know where she lived, because from the sound of our conversation, I had a feeling she didn’t even live in Florida.

This girl began telling me that I do know Tripp because every time I talk to her on the phone, I’m always with him. She also let me know that she lived in Canada and that’s when everything became even more clear to me.

I’ve never been to Canada, nor do I have plans to at the moment. The other obvious thing is that I don’t just give my number out to fans or people that I don’t know. I don’t even talk on the phone much because I despise it.

In the end, I just told her that if she wanted to believe that whoever she had been speaking with was really me, then that’s her problem. All I could do was warn her that she had been speaking with a faker and hope that she will make the right decision about modifying her life to be with someone who lies and preys on the naive.

The fact is that she’s just another little girl getting her hopes up for a dream that’s been sold to her by another fucking scumbag. I understand that maybe there’s someone else out there who’s calling themselves  “The Dro” and maybe she’s really truly in love with him. But after talking to her for the past couple of days it seems there’s way too much in common with me and the things he’s been telling her, except for the personal things which he’s obviously lied about to cover up his tracks. Maybe she really did go out to Australia and met someone who has their hair dyed like I did, but I highly doubt that he’s my identical twin. Maybe he’s a Doppelgänger?  Who knows. Either way, I hate that there are still people out there pretending to be me and that there are still girls naive enough to believe that I would all of a sudden decide to date someone who I’ve never met before and change my whole life for them. Especially someone so young.

Anyone who knows me knows that  I’m 27 years old and I live in Florida with Sara Strange. In fact, our 4 year anniversary is this Saturday and we’re going to have a blast. Kriz DK will be in town, I’ll be doing a photo shoot and video shoot with the band, and of course partying on my anniversary and buying my REAL girlfriend a nice lap dance from a large-and-in-charge black woman!

…and the fakers? They’ll still be wishing they were me.

Since this post isn’t titled, “g1 review”, I just wanted to mention that I installed a little app which allows me to make posts to my blog right from my phone. This means I can finally keep this thing up to date without feeling like I need to be sitting in front of the computer all the time to do so!

My brother called me a few minutes ago to show me this. It seems the more I rewind it and watch it over, the harder I laugh. Why the hell is this so funny to me?
